Design is more than just pretty layout. It's understanding the requirements and putting the important decisions first, without compromise With many years experience over different industry verticals, I ask the right questions to get the job done. First time. Every time.
15 years writing performance orientated websites. Experienced in intelligent design to optimise load times and get the content to the client first. There's nothing more frustrating than a slow interface, or process that is not giving feedback. Something you don't find in my work.
Professional, applied, dynamic. I started coding when I was 8, and have built my life-long passion in to my career. There's nothing more purpose orientated and unstoppable than someone doing what they love. And when I'm not working? Well, then I'm playing with computers at home!
Design is more than just photoshop skills.
Good design understands the objective of the user and enables them to achieve their goals. Simple, intuitive, clean designs that provide user feedback and allow quick workflow navigation with intuitive interaction. Whether you're learning how to use the weapons arming system on a Eurofighter jet, combating disease in poverty stricken countries, or managing the complex derivative trading life cycle for investment management, the requirements differ and so the approach taken adapts to the requirements.
Different techniques apply to different delivery platforms, so decisions have to be made early to ensure that the right tools are used. After 15 years in software development, my skill set has become language agnostic. I keep up to date with the new developments in UX and UI design and I'm able to quickly use new technologies that show definitive benefits for specific applications.
A full range of experience and talents.
From business verticals such as Finance, eCommerce, games, non-profit and multimedia, I am capable of many different ways of working. Whilst specialising in programming and scripting for business orientated software, I also have experience in the Unity games engine, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Flash, After Effects, Premiere & Sony Vegas as part of my broader knowledge and interests.
Whilst walking the Internet to keep up to date on new developments in technology ad software development, I often find new ideas that I can take across domains to keep my software fresh and forward looking. I've also worked freelance with creatives who design beautiful interfaces whilst I breathe life into them by bringing the components together in a scripted choreography to defy the users expectations.
It is with this industry sector that I have the most experience. Having worked for spread trading, custodians, private banking, investment banks and hedge funds, I have a range of experiences in different environments all requiring technical competence and the ability to understand complex environments.
Setting up shop has never been easier. Depending on the client's size and needs, there are multiple choices. Start-ups and the like benefit from a rapid setup supported by WordPress and the associated plug-in range to provide the ecommerce setup with full order management and invoicing on the cheap. Larger organisations have benefited from a custom build implemented in asp.net. The additional flexibility and direct integration with their existing back office systems has provided an additional window with minimal involvement outside of packing and shipping.
Using the Unity engine with 3D Studio Max and c#, I have been building a quadcopter simulator using mechanics to simulate geophysical forces on kinematic objects. By using a complex and custom object model, I am able to calculate complex thrust and torque vectors of different models by changing characteristic attributes to provide a real-time simulation.
I've had the opportunity to work with the WHO and the NSPCC to fill gaps in their campaigns at different stages. From server side media management software, to multimedia promotional material for kiosks or public events, it's been a pleasure to know that some of my work has helped push the world towards a better place.
I have built computer based training applications for pilots of the BAE Systems Hawk, and EuroFighter avionics systems, including engine management, radar control and weapons arming systems.
Specialising in Computer Science and Multimedia
I graduated in 2000 with a joint honors (double thesis) in Computer Science with Multimedia, and have since continued my education with supporting qualifications over a range of technology and industry specific subjects.
I also have qualifications in .NET solution design, WebSphere development and administration, as well as other industry specific certification. For more details, download my CV in the contact section.
Power is nothing, without control
Whether it's grid computing or 200kph down the pit straight, everything I do is about precision and control. Also, expanding my technical interests into mechanics and aerodynamics, two other areas obsessed with precision, I enjoy racing my Ducati Superbike and flying my 250 class drone. Both are sports where personal style, understanding and execution of theory combined with countless hours of experience come together; whilst a momentary lapse of concentration can lead to serious damage to both machine and pilot.
On a more physical note, I enjoy distance running and cycling, where I have competed in the Canary Wharf 10k, Lausanne 10k Midnight Run, l'Escalade in Geneva, and the 180k La Bisou cycle race in the French Alps.
